LoneStar Fatherhood Initiative

(512)472-3237

LoneStar Fatherhood Initiative is primarily a full service Family Law Legal Assistance Program.

We have the ability to help anyone with their family court problems anywhere in Texas or refer them to organizations in other states for assistance.

Membership Benefits:

- Attorney Assistance and or Representation

All members can have as many appointments as the member needs with our staff of attorneys during their scheduled times.  The attorneys "walk" members step by step through their problems.  Click on Attorney Schedule above to see the "basic" schedule.

Members may represent themselves using the entire team of people to help them, in fact many do.  Members may hire any attorney they choose to fully represent them in court.  Many members join because they like the idea of hiring an attorney involved in a progaram where people have the benefit of second opinions and group feedback from, and access to other attorneys who care about families and the economic expenses involved.  We strive to have a program that provides what is needed in that respect.

- Licesned Paralegal Services

Also the organization subleases to a licensed paralegal department which prepares all court documents at the recommendation and approval of the attorneys.

- Low Cost DNA Paternity Testing

See the DNA Testing page of this website.

- Networking and Referrals

The organization also works with or refers members to private investigators, licensed counselors, attorneys/mediators, and even some non family law but related services.

Some History of the over 37 year old LFI.

We firmly believe that being a good father or parent means putting family needs above personal desires.  Virtually all of the organizations and programs of the MFRC have derived from LoneStar Fatherhood Initiative.  The core function of LoneStar Fatherhood Initiative has remained constant through the years.  The program provides free or low-cost legal services to individuals involved in family law matters.  It is also an advocate for parents and children in every reasonable forum available, such as the media, civic clubs, churchs, or other places.

The organization was formed in 1969.  Over the years, the group has been a voice for fathers keeping a place as full parenting partners for the benefit of their children.

Despite the title, the organization helps all those who need help including grandparents.  Many grandparents and others have benefitted from the organization's efforts to obtain statutory rights for visitation with their grandchildren.

Second-wives, often become compassionately involved in their husbands' attempts to be fathers to their children.  Second-wives often play a significant role in overcoming the troubles of broken familes.  Despite the benefits of the Family Court System often children pay a high price at times in what can be an insensitive and often disfunctional legal system.  Second-wives and step-parents now constitute a large and rapidly growing percentage of membership in state and national parents and children's rights organizations.

LoneStar Fatherhood Initiative is fortunate to have acquired, over time, the voluntary services of many dedicated, experienced family law attorneys. The free legal services fill a major community need that is largely unknown.  An estimated 80 percent of the time, women involved in family law matters are represented by counsel, while men have representation in only about 20 percent of cases.

Every case where a child is in the primary custody of a less competent parent because that less competent parent happens to have the only legal help or somehow "automatically" get's custody in a certain courtrooms because of their gender is potential serious tragedy and terrible injustice to a child.  Also many serious situations don't fall into the categories for help even from the many "women only" programs that exist.  Some of these women wind up getting help at LFI.  In any adversarial system, such a major differential in the ability of the parties to present their side of issues bodes ill for the fair administration of justice.  Specifically, children suffer the most and society in general because of these things, not just fathers.

LoneStar Fatherhood Initiative has been helping to close that gap for three decades.

The organization offers free consultations as needed to members (see the attorney calander on this website) with experienced family law attorneys and access to a paralegal service that provides preparation of legal forms at a small charge. Referrals to competent family law attorneys are also available.
